On Time

At East, our goal every school year is to ensure that every student attends school regularly, which starts with getting to school on time.

Studies have shown that getting to school and class on time has a huge impact on a student’s academic success. Even as students grow older and more independent, parents play a key role in making sure students get to school on time every day and helping them to understand why being on time is so important for success in school and in life.

We realize some tardies to school are unavoidable due to short term or long-term challenges which may occur. We also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically.

Research shows that students who chronically miss class time (i.e., tardy to school) are:

Much less likely to perform at or above grade level academically.
At higher risk for dropping out of school and not graduating.
Clearly, getting to school on time matters! Please ensure that your child attends school every day, and arrives on time.

Rewarding Student Attendance

We want to motivate and reward our students for good attendance. We will look at student attendance each month. If your child comes to school on time, every day, with no absences or tardies within the month:

They will be eligible for school-wide rewards.
They will have their picture taken along with their other classmates as part of the 100% Monthly Attendance Club which will be displayed prominently by the main office in recognition of their achievement.

East High School Tardy to School Policy

School starts for all students at 8:00 am
Students that arrive to school after 8:05 will be marked tardy and must obtain a pass from the school attendance clerk (who will be stationed at the front entrance during 1st period – after 1st period a student is to report to the main office to sign in and get a tardy to school pass) before being allowed into the class
- The attendance clerk will mark students tardy in Infinite Campus.
- The attendance clerk will have students sign in (print their name and arrival time)
- The attendance clerk will write students a hall pass allowing them to report to class
- The Attendance clerk will input and track students overall tardies daily

The attendance clerk and Grade level administrators will follow the school-wide tardy to school policy:
- 5th Tardy – The attendance clerk will call student’s parent on the 5th tardy and will document that parent contact in the student’s Support and Intervention file.
- 7th Tardy – The student’s grade level administrator will contact the parent to set up a meeting / Phone conference including – the grade level administrator and student. Documented in Support and Intervention.
- 10th Tardy – A 10th (or more) tardy will result in a parent meeting @ Attendance Review Board. Attendance plan created and signed off by parent.
Ongoing tardies to school will result in a referral to the truancy officer for additional support and intervention as well as a possible subpoena to juvenile court.
